Speaker: Dr. Wasiq Bokhari, CEO of BioIdent

Bio:

Wasiq Bokhari is a co-founder and managing partner of Quantum Insight. He works with Fortune 500 companies on the adoption and commercialization of materials and nanotechnology with applications in energy, IT and medicine. Wasiq also works with entrepreneurs and early-stage startups in technology commercialization.

Wasiq received his Ph.D. in physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, under Nobel laureate Jerome Friedman. He was part of the team that discovered a fundamental particle called the top quark at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory in 1995. He is an author of more than 50 scientific and technical publications, and is cited as an inventor on 8 patents, granted and applied.

Speaker: Bill Coleman, CEO of Cassatt

Bio:

Bill Coleman has more than 30 years of corporate and entrepreneurial leadership experience. Prior to Cassatt, he founded and was the first chairman and CEO of BEA Systems, the world’s leading infrastructure software company. Before BEA, he served as vice president of system software at Sun Microsystems.

He holds a B.S. in Computer Science from the U.S. Air Force Academy and M.S. degrees in Computer Science and Computer Engineering from Stanford University. He also has an honorary doctorate from the University of Colorado.

Bio:

Donnie Foster is an experienced CEO with a focus on early stage revenue generation blended with 25 years as a senior executive in HP.

He started and successfully ran Tenacity Unlimited, Inc., a management consulting firm that provided IT and executive assistance to startup and established companies. Donnie fulfilled an advisory role as Chief Operating Officer at International SoftDevices Corporation focused on Data Center "ultra Lights-Out" and other efficiency initiatives. In addition, he delivered expertise to high-tech, biotech, and pharmaceutical companies in multiple roles.

As a former Americas General Manager of Software Solutions at HP, Donnie successfully led large-scale complex multi-million dollar, hardware/software (packaged and custom) engagements across the world using an imbedded sales team, professional services and directed a 250 person offshore team in India.

Bio:

Ken Oestreich is Director of Product Management & Product Marketing at Cassatt Corporation, and has spent over 20 years developing new products and markets for early-stage technology.

Previously Ken was with Sun Microsystems, where he led marketing, product management and business development for an incubator business unit. Previously, he was responsible for coordinating Java and software strategy, and analyzing potential technology introductions. Much of his time was spent driving Developer Marketing, SI/ISV partnering and partner marketing, and began his career at Sun focusing on developing the emerging market for middleware and network-aware web services. He also helped found the Liberty Alliance, now an industry-wide 150+ company body which creates federated identity technology standards for the internet.

Prior to Sun, he held a number of marketing and sales development positions in early-stage technology and consulting companies, and spent four years designing digital electronics for adaptive optics with Litton Industries. Ken holds a BSE in Electrical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from Columbia University.

Speaker: Bruce Myatt, EYP Mission Critical Facilities

Bio:

Bruce Myatt, is a Principal Engineer and a registered Mechanical Engineer and Principal Partner of EYP Mission Critical Facilities in San Francisco.  He has over 25 years of engineering   consulting experience working with facilities such as data centers, clean rooms, semiconductor fabs, nuclear power plants, and DOE’s nuclear weapons production facilities.  He has recently led work for LBNL and PG&E related to data center energy efficiency benchmarking, technology demonstration, and design and retro-commissioning programs. Bruce has actively pioneered server cooling solutions that isolate air flow in order to prevent air “recirculation” and “short-circuiting” in data center environments. He has provided data center energy efficiency presentations to audiences at Data Center Dynamics, 7x24 Exchange, IFMA, Building Automation, Teladata, and PG&E Customer Energy Efficiency conferences. Bruce is a Founder of  San Francisco's Critical Facilities Round Table (CFRT); Co-Chairman of the CFRT High Density Data Center Committee; member of the Board of Advisors of Energy & Power Management Magazine; member of the Silicon Valley Leadership Group Energy Committee; Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Sigma Phi Delta International Social-Professional Engineering Fraternity; and a member of the Board of Directors of Junior Achievement of the Bay Area.

Bio:

David Diniz has 28 years of critical infrastructure engineering experience and is a licensed marine engineer with 20 years of naval experience. David specializes in critical power, mechanical, and communication systems ranging from Nuclear Submarine Repair Facilities, Commissioning Officer for prototype helicopter landing training vessel, hospital ships, Nuclear Aircraft Carriers, and various other mission critical naval ships. During 3 years of the Dot. Com Boom, David was a MEP coordinator and Commissioning Czar overseeing the construction of 12 data centers nation wide. Each data center was configured N+1 with over 100,000 Sq. ft. of raised floor space. His last five years was spent managing Engineering & Operations in multiple high rise buildings in San Francisco.

Moderator- Deborah Grove, CEO of Grove Associates

Deborah Grove brings 24 years of entrepreneurship, global channel strategies, market research, and innovation consulting, having guided clients during times of profound change with unpredictable opportunities.

She graduated from UCLA and the American Graduate School of International Management. After early employment at Warner Brothers International in Germany and Sweden, and TRW International in Los Angeles, she founded Asia’s first office automation consultancy in Asia in 1981 with offices in Hong Kong, Singapore and Korea. She was known as an expert on technology adoption throughout the region and was invited to chair panels or speak at numerous national conferences. In 1985, Deborah negotiated the sale of her company to International Data Corporation and continued on as Managing Director, IDC Asia until relocating to Silicon Valley. She also served as CEO and Founder at Introplus, a web services company.

Bio:

San Francisco Bay Area veteran executive Joe Hamilton has excelled in a range of executive leadership roles in the real estate, financial and professional services fields. Most recently, as Senior Managing Director at Liberty-Greenfield California, he initiated Liberty-Greenfield’s Silicon Valley-based office in 2003 and helped build the firm’s successful track record in the Northern California market. Prior to joining Liberty-Greenfield, Joe was President and COO of Citigate Cunningham. Joe also served as CFO, CAO and a member of the Board of Directors of the Grubb & Ellis Company, an NYSE listed national real estate firm. Earlier in his career, Joe was an executive at Crocker National Bank in San Francisco and Citibank in New York. Joe is a member of the Board of Directors and Treasurer of the Northern California Chapter of CoreNet Global. Joe holds a BA in Mathematics from Fordham University, an MS in Applied Mathematics and Operations Research from Columbia University and an MBA in Finance from the University of California at Berkeley.

Speaker: Andy Taylor, Applied Power Technologies

Bio:

Andy Taylor, Partner at APT is a registered professional electrical engineer in the State of California. He is a member of IFMA Silicon Valley and president of the Silicon Valley Chapter of AFE. 

Mr. Taylor has over 20 years of experience in facilities, manufacturing, and utility engineering. He has a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Idaho, and a master’s degree in manufacturing systems engineering from Stanford University. 

Mr. Taylor has been a registered professional electrical engineer since 1994. Mr. Taylor’s professional background includes eight years at Intel Corporation in various positions in facilities and manufacturing. He chaired Intel’s virtual factory electrical joint engineering team (JET), and was the strategic planning manager for Intel Mask Operations. 

Prior to Intel, Mr. Taylor worked as a consulting electrical engineer for Quasar Engineering in Emeryville, CA and for ABB Impell in San Ramon, CA. Back in Boise, Idaho Mr. Taylor worked for the electric utility Idaho Power Company.

Mr. Taylor is a seasoned professional skilled in both facilities management and manufacturing systems improvement. His flexibility and creative approach to problem solving have been formally recognized and awarded by clients and employers alike.

Speaker: Andy Broer, IT Manager for Cisco

Bio:

Andy Broer is a senior IT manager at Cisco Systems. He managed Cisco's global Data Center Infrastructure Team (DCIT) for the past decade - an IT team dedicated to the physical facilities. Recently he transitioned into a track manager of their Design & Build track for the NextGen Production (business) Data Centers (DCs) taking his experience of building Cisco from one R&D DC to 50+ in 6 years time through organic growth and acquisitions. He works side by side with Cisco's Work Place Resources (facilities and maintenance) to design the structured cabling and consult on the power and cooling needs of their new DCs. Prior to joining Cisco in 1996, Andy was a build engineer and software integrator for the "PINK" O/S that became (IBM and Apple's) Taligent subsidiary's CommonPoint O/S an object oriented C++ operating system. He holds a BA and MA from San Jose State University.

Speaker: Dr. Jimenez, Applied Sciences Laboratories Inc.

Bio:

Dr. Jimenez has a 30-year professional background in research and development in support of Air Force needs; design, test and evaluation of complex military and commercial systems; technology transfer and commercialization; risk management; vulnerability assessments of complex commercial facilities; program management; and all facets of business development, proposal development and management.

Dr. Jimenez managed ASL’s implementation of the 5-year Air Force’s Terrorist High Power Microwave (HPM) Threat Assessment Program. This work included test, evaluation and modeling of vulnerabilities of military and commercial electronic systems to attacks using HPM weapons. The results supported a decision by the Joint Chiefs of Staff to implement a HPM countermeasures program to protect military electronic systems from malevolent attacks. Dr. Jimenez has maintained oversight of the Heimdall code development since 1996 while under contract to the Air Force Research Laboratory. The Heimdall code, widely deployed at U.S. federal laboratories and industry, is used to model the performance characteristics of HPM weapons.

Dr. Jimenez played a technical leadership role in a risk assessment of a commercial high-rise building owned by the City of Seattle, Washington. He performed a vulnerability study of large-scale commercial data centers to chemical, biological and radiological (CBR) incidents. He is developing a specification for a chemical sensor system to protect U.S. banking data centers from accidental and malevolent hazardous chemical releases. He completed a vulnerability assessment of commercial data centers to HPM attacks and is developing counter measure strategies.

Currently the Director of Product Marketing for Sever Technology Inc., Server Technology designs and manufactures intelligent power distribution products for enterprise data centers. Previously the Director of Product Marketing, with GameTech International creating strategies and specifications for new product development of Bingo Management systems, games and portable bingo card minding devices for 5 years. Calvin also held various positions in the Process Control Instrumentation field for over 11 years, including Sales Engineer, Product Manager, Account Manager and Marketing Manager for ABB with both domestic and international responsibility.

Bio:

Jim Zaboski is President of Fike’s California Subsidiaries, including Intelligent Technologies, Facilities Protection Systems, and Superior Electric. He holds a BSME from Ohio State University. With over 21 years in the data center industry, his experience and knowledge in equipment sales, design, construction of data centers and its computer room support systems IT environments is instrumental in applications to the integrated workings of Emergency Power Off systems. The Emergency Power Shutdown Management System is a product and invention of Zaboski’s experience and his desire to build better efficiency of EPO operations.

Bio:

Jeff Raimo is a product manager at Siemens Building Technologies where he is in involved in the integration of wireless technologies into Siemens’ building automation system. Jeff has previously held various product development positions within Siemens and the semiconductor industry.

Jeff has authored numerous articles on emerging wireless technologies some of which have most recently appeared in the ASHRAE Journal, Buildings, Engineered Systems, and HPAC. He is also a regular presenter at technical conferences held by such organizations as ASHRAE, NFM&T, and the ZigBee Alliance.

He has an MBA and Aerospace Engineering degree both from the University of Illinois and after college spent seven years in the Navy as a nuclear-trained officer.

Bio:
Val Oliva joined Foundry Networks in 1999 and is the Director of Product Management for Foundry's Enterprise Business Unit. Before 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) was a standard, Oliva lead the 10 Gigabit Ethernet efforts at Foundry. Oliva was a 10GEA Vice President, a Member of the Board of Directors with the 10GEA, and the Chair of the 10GEA Technical Committee. Oliva led the efforts to demonstrate the first and the largest 10GbE network vendor interoperability.

Prior to Foundry, Oliva held a Product Line Management position at Network Equipment Technology. Oliva also spent 10 years building IP networks since 1988, and was employed as a Network Architect and Network Manager at Hewlett-Packard and Bay Networks, respectively.

Bio:

Jamie Lerner is the President and CEO of CITTIO. Mr. Lerner founded CITTIO in 2001 to address the need for cost-effective, automated network and systems monitoring software, which he found to be missing from traditional solutions that were incredibly labor intensive and costly to maintain. Today, Mr. Lerner is responsible for CITTIO’s strategic direction, and is actively involved with the ongoing development of the company’s award-winning software.

Prior to founding CITTIO, Mr. Lerner was Chairman of the Board, co-CEO and CTO at XUMA, Inc., a server management company he co-founded in 1997. While at XUMA, Mr. Lerner helped to grow the company to 340 employees and over $20M of annual revenues in just two years. Mr. Lerner began his career at Andersen Consulting and Platinum Technology where he focused on infrastructure software and systems architecture. He is widely quoted in top-tier publications and speaks regularly at industry events. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Quantitative Economics and Decision Sciences from U.C. San Diego.

Herb Villa is the Field Technical Manager (Datacomm Group) with Rittal Corporation of Springfield, OH. With a background in mechanical engineering, Herb brings almost 20 years of experience in the IT market, having been involved in all aspects of system design, installation and support as well as seeing it from three unique vantage points – manufacturer, integrator, supplier.

With Rittal for over 12 years, Herb brings this experience to the design and implementation of data center facilities. He has provided training to end users, installation contractors and design consultants, in conferences, the classroom and on site. Herb has brought this knowledge to many different clients in financial services, Fortune 500 companies, manufacturing organizations, education and government agencies.
